The problem this season is we have no strikers. Ayew is not a striker. Noble is too slow. Today Noble would get the ball and pass it back. We miss Kouyate's runs. We need two up front in this system and the results will come. Payet for me has not been the same player since he got injured against Everton last season. Yes he can hit a free kick but he's lost that burst of pace he had.

Let's hope we can do something in the cups as the league campaign is dead and buried already. No point in sacking Bilic, can'[t be bringing a new manager into a club that is now toxic from top to bottom, Bilc is in fact one of the few positives we have left. Absolute fucking shit, and I'm losing interest, like the players.

Obiang's performance was one positive for me. Our best player by a country mile. Not too much else to shout about.

This season is exposing Bilic's limitstions...

Doesn't set up the team to exploit opposition weaknesses from the first minute...

Too slow to react to situations on the pitch....

No plan B...or Plan C...

Can't pick a striker thst scores...

Sticks to fsvotites too long...

The new system is fine away from home as you get the home side taking the initiative and it gives you chance to flood forward on the break. At home teams want to do that to us and we can't break them down and they pack the midfield.

For me we need 2 upfront at home against teams like stoke etc.

Id like to see Ayew up with a partner and move Payet into the middle as he does not want to track back anyway. Id also give Feghouli a chance outwide and put Lanzini on the bench

I think things will look quite different after the International break. No, we won't win too many of the next 4 or 5 games but we will be under less pressure and as usual with West Ham we will play better. Probably 3 points from those 5.
I'd think Ayew will start to deliver - it would be nice to have at least one striker score at least once this season. I can't quite believe we have zero goals from strikers.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Stoke - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
I have always believed too much has been read into last season of us being little more than an one season wonder as it was all in all a pretty unique one with it being off the field the last at Upton Park and on the field a season where most of the big boys simply failed to turn up so along with the appointment of more popular manager and the unearthing of a world superstar everything fell into place for us to capitalise which we did to some extent though obviously not as well as Leicester did.

For us and even more so Leicester to match last seasons achievements it would require serious investment this summer investing in real quality as so many of the circumstances that contributed would not be repeated sadly we failed to do that by a long way and as a result have returned to being relegation candidates yet again.

I honestly think if Bilic stays the season it will be a repeat of Zola's last season with us where we only stay up because of the 3rd from bottom side amassing a sub 34 points total, and I say that not because I think Billic 's is a bad manager but his style of management like Zola's simply is not cut out for struggling sides not matter how much talent he has at his disposal, hopefully we will survive and back Bilic with the quality needed next summer and we start moving forward again.

No player wanted to take the responsibility to get things going, Lanzini especially was looking to offload the ball as soon as he received it, Payet went hiding the whole first half whereas usually he is looking for the ball in all areas of the pitch.

Formation change should have happened after the first half, they dominated possession the first 45. Three centre halfs and two holding midfielders was giving up the initiative. One of the three centre halfs could have pushed into the midfield allowing us to regain the possession and try to dominate and move stoke about, be the easiest game their defence will ever play.

Payet has to play central and Lanzini needs to sit out for a bit.

Time for Randolph to come in now as well, Adrian went wandering twice before we conceded that goal, he cannot command an area.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Stoke - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
To me it seemed like Cresswell was too high up the pitch trying to play as a winger and receiving the ball ahead of Payet. He works best when he is deeper and is the one that is carrying the ball rather than Ogbonna.
In contrast Antonio seemed too deep taking the ball off Kouyate in a right back position. HE is more effective when he is further up the pitch.
A couple of times we had (through frustration) Ayew and Payet coming and taking the ball off the centre halves.
Too many players in the wrong places, too many not moving & the passing was GLACIAL. S-l-o-w

Ayew was getting frustrated from early on.
Coming deep into our own half to take possession was a bad sign.
Bilic is getting found out somewhat this season.

Cresswell got forward but to be fair they'd done their homework and had at least two on him most game. We failed to capitalise by running into space and passing - the basics were just not there.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Stoke - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
For me, the problem today was that we were too cautious and lacked attacking intent. If you have 3 CBs you can usually afford for one of them to break forward and support the midfield. Far from doing that today, they all stayed back and passed it among themselves and often had to end up passing it long because there weren't enough options to pass to in midfield. Noble often made this even worse by coming deep and taking the ball off the CBs. No wonder we were breaking down in midfield and constantly passing the ball backwards and sideways - we just played with no boldness and kept too many men behind the ball. The sign of a team that is in a negative mindset based on being afraid to lose.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Stoke - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
Today was a game that I thought Antonio up top off a forward would have caused Stoke's defence problems from the start as they rely so much on bullying opponents, I felt he could hold his own and coming in from wide positions up top would have been a real handful creating space for the likes of Payet to exploit so I was both disappointed and dismayed to see him at wing back.

Obviously Bilic fancied giving Ayew a go so rather than change formation to allow Antonio to play forward he moves him to wing back to accommodate him in the current formation yet in the 2nd half when Fletcher comes on that is exactly what he did so why not start like that because clearly it was something Stoke were not so comfortable facing?

By not doing that I think we missed a trick and allowed Stoke to settle easily into a game they thoroughly deserved a point from.

I agree.
Bilic is more reactive rather than proactive.
